Shadow Study
by Maria V. Snyder
Ehhhhh. I was really excited at the start of this book, to get back into this world and spend more time with these characters. So many things happened so quickly at the start! And then the plot got slow and the constantly shifting viewpoints annoyed me and Valek's flashbacks, while interesting, always came at inconvenient times... Not to mention the return of Devlen (ugh), which at this point seems forced and unnecessary. Everything in this book just feels... recycled. Even the "shocker" of an ending was something I called from the start, because what ELSE would you do with this kind of story?
I know Snyder wrote this series (sub-series?) because her fans wanted more, but I feel like that shows and it leaves me a little disappointed. I didn't particularly enjoy the Glass books, and I guess I was really hoping that this series would be a return to what I loved about Poison Study. But... not the case so far.
