Argylle: A Novel by Elly Conway

3.0

On the one hand, I very much enjoyed the story. It wasn't shocking, but it was a fun read.

On the other hand....
The person who read the audiobook drove me bonkers. She pronounced words in an odd way mostly consistently, which I hated, but then would occasionally pronounce them the right way, which was even more insane-making. She said words like "everything" and "anything" (which are used A LOT) as "everathing" and "anathing." Those were the ones that were used most often, although there were a lot of other words that were just said wrongly.
Also, it's clearly set in America, what with it being the CIA, but I swear it's written by a British person and nobody bothered to say, "Oh, hey.... These are particularly British ways of saying that, and Americans would say it differently." Things like "just about," which in American means nearly, but in British means barely.
I don't know if I'd have given it a 4 if I'd read the actual book rather than listening to it, but if anyone asked, I'd tell them not to listen to it.
