This was a fantastic and accessible read whose voice kept me hooked. Was it life-altering? Not really, but it put words to the thoughts on communicable disease that have been swirling in my brain since 2020. It sparked plenty of conversation with those around me. The book did a good job of setting up metaphors and sticking with them, while weaving in relevant stories from all across history. It takes some liberties when it comes to interpreting these stories, such as claiming small business owners always treat their employees with compassion because big business doesn’t. And making assumptions about the family dynamics of those impacted by COVID-19. However it tied together so many narratives and covered so much ground in an impressive way. Would recommend for anyone interested in plagues and public health!
