The Key to Deceit by Ashley Weaver

2.0

After reading A Peculiar Combination I was poised to like this romantic mystery romp. However, this second book in a series of three felt formulaic and, for the most part, I was one step ahead of the action. While it was still a fun read, and perfectly safe for reading before bed (ie it didn't provoke any dreams, good or bad), I was almost bored by the story.

Did I enjoy the growing romance between Ellie and Felix, yes. Was it entertaining to see Ellie and Major Ramsey flirt, of course. Will either of these relationships pan out in the next story, who knows. I could see the author dragging them on and on and on, or, sadly, having something happen that turns one relationship on end rendering it no longer viable. To see how things progress (or not) I will likely read the next book.
