Muscadines by S.P. Miskowski

5.0

I want more.
I admire Miskowski's ability to give a sense of place in her work, especially the Skillute Cycle, and it is just as strong in Muscadines. The small, dusty, Southern town is a million miles from Skillute, but it is so easy to picture in my mind, thanks to a very talented author.
And the three sisters, such wonderful characters. Narrator Martha telling us everything we need to know about her family, without giving us too much, developing a brooding, suffocating sense of dread.
Such a vivid reading experience, I could happily read a longer story where this was a part of it. I could feel it playing out behind my eyes, like a movie on a screen. Fantastic work.
