Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins Reid

4.0

On probably the very first sunny weekend this entire winter (seriously, wtf, we’re almost done with winters!) finally managed to get a relaxing day to myself, just simply lying outside in the sun and reading the entire afternoon. And this felt like just about the perfect book for it, with its whole oceanic summer beachy cozy vibe going for it. And must say, Taylor Jenkins Reid is one hell of a writer.
A very short read, this one pulls you in right from the very beginning and keeps you entertained throughout. Has got something of everything in little doses - tragedy, comedy, romance, all of which you’d expect of pretty much any family drama - which this book essentially is, in its core. And then it’s also about a party gone haywire. And it’s got some really interesting characters. Had kind of expected an adult version of Project X kind of story going in, and the second half was somewhat like that only, but not quite? Some of the romantic moments that made some part of it all had me grinning like a little idiot, so there’s that as well. Probably not the kind of book that is going to stay with me for long overall, but I had a great time reading it, so really not complaining.
And yeah, definitely gonna pick up more books by TJR in the days to come.
