None of This Is True by Lisa Jewell
4.0

I tend to reach for romance novels most often, so I was excited to grab a thriller to change things up a little. The writing style did take me a while to get used to because I’m so used to reading writing from American authors, so the language took a bit to get the hang of, but I was instantly hooked! There were so many plot twists and jaw-dropping moments where I had to put the book down for a minute to just wrap my head around the context. There were also a few bits that I thought were obviously predictable, and then I’d read the next sentence and would just be blown away. I loved the contrast between Alis and Josie, they really are polar opposites and it’s interesting to see how the two view their problems so differently. One thing I couldn’t really look past (and reading other reviews, it clearly bothered others too) was how the age gap between Josie and Walter was brushed off – yeah it was mentioned frequently and used to antagonize Walter throughout the book, but by the end of the book it almost felt like it was normalized in a way. After finishing the book, I didn’t know what to think or how to feel. That last chapter had me staring out the window for a good fifteen minutes because I no longer knew what to do with my life. So many unanswered questions, so many plot twists, so many wtf moments – I highly recommend you give this book a shot if you enjoy thrillers and mystery. I haven’t read many thrillers yet, just this one (and Verity if that counts) but I definitely want to get into them because I enjoy the feeling of just constantly being on your toes, so I look forward to reading more of this authors work.
