The Road Not Taken and Other Poems by Robert Frost

4.0

~ 4.5 stars ~

after reading the biography of robert frost, i feel more connected to every poem of his i now encounter. he had a tough life (the making of a great poet), while silmaltenously living the best life he could.

it was in english class i read my first robert frost poem: 'the road not taken'. at first, i didn't understand the poem. or maybe i did, but thought perhaps i understood it wrong. whereas my professor found the poem comforting and optimistic, i found it brutally honest and sad. i didn't realize at the time that one single poem can have infinite interpretations and several reasons why people relate to it.

this intrigued me. i spent hours and hours researching 'the road not taken' and other selected poems by robert frost. i found multiple analyzations of 'the road not taken' and studied each one carefully. my research brought me edward thomas, a great friend of robert frost, and their story as close companions.

knowing the basis of 'the road not taken' altered how i perceived the poem. i believe it is about indecisiveness and second-guessing yourself always; never being happy with the choices you made, but convincing yourself you made the right one regardless.

whatever your thoughts on the poem itself, i'm sure we can all agree it makes you feel something. whether it brings you joy or sadness, 'the road not taken' will make your heart sigh.
