This was an excellent dark fantasy. The magic system was so creative and the setting was very immersive into 1920s London with rival gangs. It’s gritty and gory. Magic users weave energy together or apart in a variety of ways, from death to time to space. More magic please!!!
The mystery threads an intricate tapestry of devious plots and dark magic, alongside a hot and cold cycle slow burn romance. The author kept me intrigued and had some great reveals (some of which I guessed and some not!).
The characters were messy and morally gray. The main character Cora was constantly making bad decisions and felt immature at times. I can understand why, as she has a lot of trauma in her past, but it was sometimes hard to watch. I’m hoping she has a lot of growth in book 2.
I flew through this book and can’t wait to read the next installment!
