Pandora's Star
by Peter F. Hamilton
I both really like and hate this story. First of all, it is very long with some sections of slow plot and seemingly pointless characters. Not only that, but the author has given you a ton of background into each of these seemingly pointless characters. Also, there were few truly likeable characters in the book (for me), which made it a slog at points. However, the plot is quite good. Even with the great plot, I was still counting down the pages until I was finally done... and then it ends with a cliffhanger. I'm really disappointed that I need to read the next book to find out what happens.
So, would I recommend reading "Pandora's Star"? Not really, I think. There are so many books that have ended with me looking forward with enthusiasm to the next one, but this isn't one of them. I feel like the next book has a chance to be much less annoying, as all the character introduction is over and the plot has really focused on a goal. However, Mr. Hamilton may just choose to introduce two dozen new self-absorbed characters in the next book and push the main plot off to the side. But I won't know, because I won't read it.
