Assigned a Mate by Grace Goodwin

This book was pretty disappointing. I read the cyborg series before I read this one, so I was expecting the same amount of character development from both characters that was shown in the other series. In the cyborg books, all of the mates have challenges to overcome to get past their own personal trauma, and end up growing together as a couple, with some awesome smut throughout.

Unfortunately, this was not the case. Instead of these characters being each other’s “perfect match” Tark ends up acting like a jackass for most of the book, and Eva is just supposed to submit and defer to his judgement. He doesn’t explain anything to Eva, and instead of communicating with her, he gets mad when she doesn’t react how she’s “supposed to.” I am all for the books where one character is supposed to submit, which allows for them to be free and trust in their partner, but there is no way in hell that I would ever trust him enough to do that.

Eva shows up on an alien planet after being forced to run away from earth so she won’t be murdered, and she wakes up naked with three guys staring at her, and nipple piercings she never consented to getting. So when one of the guys, the supposed “doctor” starts looking at her like a creep, she defends herself and won’t let him touch her. Then Tark gets upset with her for not trusting him to defend her honor, even though she met him 20 seconds ago, and he let a creep stare at her while she is naked. So then she is punished by being spanked, and later she is tied down (which I don’t have a problem with), and his friend watches as they have sex (which I do have a problem with) which Eva is very uncomfortable with, all because the “claiming act” has to be witnessed.

Over all, I think that a lot of the issues that the couple had would have been resolved easier if he had just talked to her, and answered her questions instead of spanking her/punishing her until she submitted
