The Bandit Queens by Parini Shroff

5.0

Thank you Random House Ballantine for the ebook for review. This is a wonderful and impressive debut, one I will admit I wish I had read even sooner when I got the review invite but also glad I saved it for the Fall slump when work drags. This book embraces feminism but also laugh out loud humor and this is a combination that really worked for Geeta's story and for the skills Parini Shroff has as a writer. I love a strong, even if accidental, female lead and I valued the cultural examination of women's lives in India and the attention to setting and detail; The Bandit Queens really is a gift of a book.

For fans of Finlay Donovan and similar dark edgy funny feminist reads.
