The Last Goodbye by Fiona Lucas

3.0

I had a lot of mixed emotions while reading this book. At first I hated how everyone was pushing Anna and telling her to move on but everyone came around in the end and I really appreciated their acknowledgment that they may have been caring in the wrong ways.

However what I couldn’t get over is that Brody, arguably the most messed up character in the entire book, was also the only healthy one!

Anna used Brody as a therapist. No ifs, ands, or buts about it. She even says at one point Brody listens in a way that none of her other family or friends could do. That’s because when it started Brody was a detached unbiased person who was able to look at her situation and talk her what he thought she needed to hear. Just like a therapist would.

Then Anna loved this therapist relationship so much that she decides to create an app to promote it…??? I don’t know I thought it was just a little odd.

I think the character development is great and grief is shown in a very cyclical manner instead of linear and for that I give it three stars. It’s written well and Brody was a compelling man but to be honest I could have done without Anna.
