Hollow Earth
by Carole E. Barrowman, John Barrowman
Let me preface this by saying that I love John Barrowman. I've loved him since Dr. Who when he was Captain Jack. This book was a fun, light, read. The plot wasn't very deep but as the target age range is probably about 10-12 I wasn't expecting it to be. It's a story about twins who are part of an old magical people who are either animare (can create drawings that animate to life) or guardians (those who protect the animare). Cue bad guys and a mysterious presence known as the Hollow Earth Society (which isn't very mysterious and is explained the book) and you have yourself a fun plot that'll keep the pages turning. Yes there are several unrealistic elements to this book but it's a children's fantasy novel so I feel that shouldn't be terribly unexpected. Overall, it's a fun afternoon read if you want something that you don't have to take too seriously.
