La Princesa and the Pea by Susan Middleton Elya
4.0

This is an engaging retelling of the Princess and the Pea. I like how it weaves in many Spanish words (and includes a glossary at the FRONT--what a wonderful touch!!).
The story still follows the traditional arc of the fairy tale, but I do appreciate the twist. In addition, the princess may have some agency because the prince proposes to her, implying that she accepts before the wedding. The illustrations are beautiful and in the end papers, the illustrator Martinez-Neal says that the textiles were "inspired by the weaving and embroidery of indigenous people of Peru."
This would be an excellent book to add to any library collection.
