Daughter of Moloka'i by Alan Brennert
4.0

Such a good book. We found the 1st book Molokai at a condo we rented in Hawaii and my whole family read it. It told the story of a young girl on Hawaii found to have leprosy and banished. She grew up surrounded by other lepers and had a life and had a child that was taken from her due to the risk of the child getting leprosy. This book follows the life of her child who was adopted right before WWII. It follows her and her family through the horrors of World War II in the US for a Japanese family. Internment camps, hearing of their families slaughtered in Hiroshima, then returning to places where others didn’t want them to be. Mother and daughter reunite and it is such a touching story.
