The Mighty Thor/Journey into Mystery: Everything Burns by Carmine Di Giandomenico, Barry Kitson, Alan Davis, Kieron Gillen, Matt Fraction

5.0

A proper finale to the run, rare enough in superhero comics, and a spectacular send-off. The needs of each book were met in a balanced way, and the firing of all the Chekhov's Guns was incredibly satisfying. Most importantly, this final volume is emotional, smart, and the storytelling feels right even as you despair of the turn of events. This run of Journey Into Mystery comes highly recommended, for superhero fans, lapsed superhero fans, fantasy addicts, lovers of Young Adult fiction, and anyone who wants a lesson in how to write in a shared universe whilst telling a complete, comprehensive, and satisfying story.

Then, after reading this run, you can go straight onto reading Gillen/McKelvie/Norton/Wilson's Young Avengers. Conversely, if you've read Young Avengers, this run of comics gives the new series a completely different tenor.
