Pale Fire by Vladimir Nabokov
5.0
What a rollercoaster this book took me on! The blurred lines between who’s story I’m actually reading to it ending the truth. It amazes me how cleverly and interestingly crafted this is and beyond sinister yet beautiful. A new favourite.
Nabokov blew me away again with the unreliable narrator style of this novel. First Lolita, and now this. Two completely different stories yet containing similarities. I also love that Nabokov referred to Lolita without actually referring to it.
I had trouble believing this was fiction when I first started reading but beyond it being a poem with notes on said poem this is a story within a story. Incredible imaginative fiction. And just so so cleverly crafted, I can’t get over it!! Please please read this book. If Nabokov has 1 fan, I am her. This is gorgeous, I have no words left.
(Also: can I just state that Kinbote was tremendously sassy!)
