Double Star
by Robert A. Heinlein
I really enjoyed this light, fast paced novel. The story was intentionally sillier than I expected and the introduction put me nicely in the right frame of mind to enjoy rather than be frustrated with the unique main character.
I found the pompous first person narrator to be hilariously depicted by the audiobook reader and it greatly increased my enjoyment of the story. The story being told from the perspective of a vain, self centered protagonist means the future world is very lightly sketched and the focus is on the thriller /action that mattered to the MC.
Like most 1950s sci-fi, the gender dynamics are clearly from that time, but this book is not nearly as heavy handedly misogynistic as some of the other Hugo winners of this time.
