I was lucky enough to be invited by some colleagues to listen to Jason Reynolds speak. It was an inspiring experience.
While there, he spoke to adults and kids alike in a way in which all could relate. Most of the kids there from school groups had just read Long Way Down and had a lot of questions about the story and the ending. All which he patiently answered until time ran out.
Since I hadn’t yet read it, I filed all his answers away for when I did finally finish it yesterday. This book is one that will stay with me for awhile. The way Jason Reynolds talked about the ending about checking bias when teaching it, really struck a chord as I reached the end.
If you haven’t read this book, you need to. If you ever get an opportunity to hear Jason Reynolds speak, RUN to the front of the line!
