"I am Sarah Burns and I am going to marry Thomas Fear"
Sarah is excited about her upcoming marriage, but a little uneasy as well. She has never met the man. The marriage was arranged and the journey to Shadyside long enough that her elderly grandmother, her only family, can't come to the wedding. Thomas is handsome and wealthy and charming, but it's not long before Sarah begins to hear the stories surrounding his family.
'The Awakening Evil' promises to reveal the truth behind the Evil that has taken so many Cheerleader lives. And it does. It also fills in a lot of gaps surrounding the brief origin story and flashbacks we've received in earlier 'Cheerleader' books about Sarah Fear's battle with the Evil. My main issue is why the hell don't we get a scene with Simon and Angelica. I mean, come on! They're all in Shadyside. It's 1898, so it's before the Mansion burns, and it would have been so easy. Instead, it seems like the writer's and editors forgot about that little detail until the last minute and a throwaway line about Thomas' spooky grandparents is put in.
That's a detail that probably will only bother me. The interesting thing about the Evil is that it has little or nothing to do with the Fear Family Curse that, theoretically is why no birds sing in the Fear Street Woods and we have so many murderous young teenagers underfoot in Shadyside,
In the end, this is still a worthier 'Sagas' book than most because it does concern the central Fear family and is the third and last of the 16-book series to be set in Shadyside.
Up next, we truly have the end of an era: the final "official" Super Chiller and "Cheerleaders" title.
