He did it again. Breaking my heart one sentence at a time. It also breaks me to know even after almost 15 years this book still seems so relevant to everything going on in the world. Thousands of women, children, and even men suffer and not enough is being done.

From the first page to the last I felt for Mariam. I was worried for her, I wanted her to be okay after all the hardships she had endured. Her character was written do beautifully that you could feel her pain, her moments of joy, of happiness. It all. Laila character was just the same.

Khaled knows how to write a story that cause you to think, to feel, and to understand. To remind everyone that just because it is in the past that it doesn't hold any significance today.

Overall, I'm broken hearted but also hopeful after reading this.
