This was such a delight, I can’t wait to follow Amari on more adventures! The world is rich with fantastical creatures and primed to be expanded even more with future books. The pacing was well balanced to slow with new discoveries and fast through the action. Amari’s a typical 12 year old, so sometimes her decisions were a bit frustrating to view as an adult but also completely understandable given her age and her history. The ending was also predictable for anyone used to this genre, but still fun to see how we got there with all the various puzzle pieces. My minor quibble is I wish the supernatural world wasn’t used as an explanation for real life events/phenomena so we weren’t priming kids for conspiracy brain so much, but alas. Let them believe in magic when so much of the world already feels like the upside down.
