Leave Me Behind by K.M. Moronova

2.75

god i have so many thoughts on this book.

nell and bones, as characters, were both fine? i found the assault to be a bit much at times, too - i love a good dark romance book but this book was missing one crucial aspect for a few of the important scenes - consent. it is very difficult for me to wrap my mind around a relationship/romance that flourishes after one character is utterly violated by another.  although i liked the characters backgrounds/histories and felt like they played into the storyline well, and they did a decent job at supporting the characters present day actions, including ones that pissed me off to no end.

what i did find was gravely missing in this book was solid pacing. i felt like at times we were just skipping through time. parts that were ultimately important to the romance & military aspect of the book were glazed over, while seemingly pointless things were focused on for way too long. it took me out of the story a few times, and it made me feel like the high plot points the author was trying to focus on we’re shorter and less complex than they should have been.

lastly, i hate that i’ve become this reader, but this story was so predictable, and the end was really poorly done in my opinion. the big plot twist of this book was one i saw coming literally from the first time
jenkins
was mentioned. not only that but
what the fuck was that ending? i literally hated that bradshaw randomly showed up and then boom bam we’re done. i thought the end could’ve been done better, bringing the reader through it a little better. maybe give us a few chapters in preparation? idk it felt so rushed and gave me a reading ick real bad

i liked the concept of this book a lot. the dark forces were super intriguing and i loved that nell and bradshaw were both terrifying. but unfortunately, there was a lot more in this book that i was disappointed in.
