Oh. My. Word.
This is an absolutely delicious book. I both devoured it in one day, and savoured every word!
I don't know anything of Romania's history, but learning about it has been added to my ever increasing list of things I need to learn about.
I was hooked from page one right up until the end and can't wait for book 2.
This book will take you on a journey from Atlanta in the US, to remote hilly regions of Romania. There are characters to love, characters to hate, and characters where you just aren't sure.
I loved the scavenger list/puzzle solving element of this story. I love solving puzzles myself, not that I had a clue with most of these! It's not something I've come across much in books either, other than children's books which you are meant to be able to solve as you read. The puzzles weren't easy to solve, and the journey to solve them was fraught with danger. I love a book with plenty of danger, especially when I can read it grin the comfort of my sofa!
Sometimes, like now, I love a book so much I struggle to write a review about what I loved. Because I loved every thing. So all I can say is read it. You won't be disappointed.
