Shattered Vow by Eva Chase

4.0

Shattered Vow is the start of a new, monstrous series, and I am here for it. This book is a great start to it, really introducing us to the scene and the characters, and I’m enjoying the concept.

Riva and the guys know they’re different, “freaks,” that they were basically bioengineered. Constantly tested to feel out their abilities. They try to hide emerging ones, but sometimes that doesn’t work.

One night, everything goes awry, one dies, Riva is taken away, and the rest of the guys recaptured. That changes the course of their lives in ways none of them expect. It takes several years for her to find her opening to escape and find the guys and get them free as well, but of course it’s not a warm welcoming. That’s really the one thing I didn’t like about this book. No matter how many times she shows the guys that she’s on their side, they treat her terribly, especially Jacob, who can’t seem to stop thinking she’s no better than the scum on the bottom of his shoe, just waiting for the time he can get rid of her. It just goes to show the strength of her character when she just rolls with the emotional punches during the entire time they’re searching for answers.

This does end on a slight cliffhanger, and I liked the bonus POV chapter from Jacob at the end.
