The Seven Moons of Maali Almeida by Shehan Karunatilaka
5.0
This book is written in second person which was initially 🚩🚩🚩 for me but as I persisted I couldn’t imagine this book written any other way. We still experience the novel from Maali’s point of view. Such a distinct and vivid character, even through second person. Maali is chaotic and effervescent, the book is written in such a way that it’s like the reader inhabits his brain. Endlessly funny, a satire that kept me engaged the whole way through, also was an insight into Sri Lankan history for me personally. I completely understand why this book won the Man Booker! What an absolute gem 💎
