The Monkey Wrench Gang by Edward Abbey

3.0

Damn. I wished I liked this more than I did because it has so many elements that I love—radical politics, intra-group dynamics, 70s enviromentalism, terrorism, the american southwest—but honestly I found Abbey’s style to be kinda obnoxious. He’s clearly a good writer with an immense vocabulary, and there are sections that are gorgeous, but the man has an obsession with jargon filled lists which makes some chapters absolutely interminable. It’s not helped by the fact that a lot of the jokes fall completely flat, although there are a few bangers here and there. The characters are fun but not super compelling and the plot is fine but padded with a lot of fluff. I liked the ending I guess. It’s alright.
