Among the Mad by Jacqueline Winspear

4.0

After two Maisie Dobbs novels I was eh-ok about, this one was great! She's back in London! There are threats of terrorism, 1930s-style! Warring national security factions step on each others' toes IMPOLITELY! You'll be unsurprised to hear that I cringed mightily at American-Doing-An-Accent reader Orlagh Cassidy's Scottish brogue as Detective Chief Superintendent Robert MacFarlane, and YES, Maisie uses his whole title every time she addresses him, and I know the word "och" featured with regularity, but I survived, and so, unsurprisingly, did Miss Dobbs. Spoiler alert? But not really because there are nine more novels in the series. So far. Anyway, this one was enjoyable.
