This was one of my most anticipated reads for the year and it did not live up to the hype for me personally.
I'm so sad because I know this is a debut book and that the author worked so hard on it.
The premise of the book was interesting and sounded exciting, but the execution of the book was disappointing and underwhelming. It felt like there was little to no world-building and I felt as if I hadn't learnt a thing about the world. I couldn't emotionally connect to any of the characters, so when Aralva's mother was killed it was meh. The romance subplot was cute and fluffy and I loved their relationship. The only other thing was the pacing, it was all over the place and inconsistent, some scenes dragged on and others felt too rushed for the plot and needed more depth to add to character relationships and the plot.

I would love to try and reread this one day. I wish the author all the best with the rest of the series. I wish that it was my cup of tea, I'm intrigued enough to try and read it again before the end of the year.
