I love fairytale retellings to death, and they are by far my favorite genre. With me reading quite a lot of books in this genre, I’ve noticed that authors often stay too true to the original story. So much so, that it starts to become predictable. Christo did a great job of twisting the story in a way that made it fresh, new, and really dark. And I LOVED that dark twist. Having a siren protagonist was a risky move, but she did it so well. I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of this book, and I would have given it one more star if the pacing had been a little smoother. The story moved really fast most of the time and didn’t slow down in spots where it would’ve been beneficial. Overall, though, I loved this book and would recommend it to anyone whose looking for a dark, adventurous fantasy novel that centers around an incredible enemies to lovers romance.
