Something like Normal
by Trish Doller
I've never been one for movies dealing with war/the armed forces, but I might just love books of that genre. I mean, this is based off of only this one book, but that's how great it was. I'm going to sum this up in 3 points!
1. Loved how they dealt with his experiences in Afghanistan. Doller showed how it affected him, and how it will always be a part of him, and he didn't resent this. He actually kind of liked what he did, and felt it was where he belonged. It was different than a lot of the resentful opinions we hear in stories like this. It's always crazy to hear what these men and women go through over there, fighting for our country. This book did a really good job of showcasing it, and you can tell the author really did her research.
2. Of course, the romance was adorable. Harper was so perfect, and it was great to see him end up with someone so good for him. I think that's what he deserves, even if he was a dick in the past.
3. The Charlie subplot was really well done. I don't know how to really elaborate on that, it would be weird if I said it was "really good" or "fun to read". It was just a nicely done subplot, and it was good to see him work it out in the end.
The only issue I had with this book was that it was kind of a lot crammed into a short amount of time. Family problems, dead best friend problems; new girl, old girl; friends at home, friends from the Marines. It was a little overwhelming at times. But still really great overall.
