The Lord of the Rings was the first fantasy book I've read as a kid.

It will always have a special place in my heart, just for this nostalgic value alone.

I remember fondly all the good parts (the adventures, the banter, the much needed silliness of some characters and the kindness or bravery of others) and all the "bad ones" too: I quickly got overwhelmed by the strange names, at that point we didn't have the movies yet, I never even heard of Bilbo's adventures before and here was a story with a rich history and languages and races I have never heard before... (also I was very scared of Gríma)

I was only 10 years old and it has shaped my whole personality for the rest of my life.

I can't express how rare it is to find a story that many years later still gives me us much joy (or more, in fact) as it used to.

I get to travel with our Company anytime I want to and they are all wonderfully human (even when they are not), caring, openly grumbling, not afraid to weep and brave enough to step up when they have to?
