William Shakespeare's The Jedi Doth Return by Ian Doescher

4.0

Not as great as the second installment, but that could be for a number of reasons. First, I've never liked Return of the Jedi as much as Empire Strikes Back. Second, so much of Return of the Jedi is action that it's difficult to translate into narrative, often making it awkward to read. Third, there were too many other languages being thrown around that it was easier to just skip over. And finally, it didn't quite have the same fun feeling as the earlier installments, although I can't quite explain why.

However, it was interesting to see Luke soliloquize about the almost incest between him and Leia and how very wrong it was, and to hear Darth Vader express his regret and pride for Luke. Using Shakespearean prose helps to expand the Star Wars franchise in ways that I'd never have anticipated. If you've read any of these, you do kind of have to round it out with this, even if it's not as good as the first two. It is nonetheless always a delight to read such a dynamic fusion.
