The Shadow Moth by Francesca Gibbons

3.5 Stars - really wish Goodreads would do half stars.
Anything billed as like Alice in Wonderland or portal fantasy I'll totally pick up, when it's both I know I have to read it.
This book did not disappoint, the characters were whimsical and charming, the plot line adventurous and the lessons learnt along the way were truly poignant. My only upset is how ‘real’ everything was which sounds ridiculous because I’m usually complaining that character responses aren’t realistic enough. Bear with me though, to me one of the beautiful things about Alice in Wonderland is the sweet whimsy, this book lacked that a little. Although there were glorious troll like creatures and moths that you could rely on, on any day of the week and a literary of nods towards fairy tales, the repercussions were real.
There was no time loop and that was scary AF.
To be that mother… the grandmother, hell even the BF… I couldn’t even imagine.
