❝Lille mejer, I’m not here to claim anyone but you.❞

❝Creatures designed like us were not meant to bask in the light for long. Where we lurk, the darkness always finds us. This is the design.❞

CHARACTERS

» Kyrie Roth – Smart. Fearless. Vicious. Resilient. Lethal. Sassy. Charming. Dark. Thrilling. Powerful. Kyrie is a force to be reckoned with. She's amusing in the darkest ways, and she’s also a box of surprises. She keeps Jack on his toes and I live for it!

» Jack Sorensen – Meticulous. Observant. Ruthless. Intense. Alluring. Lethal. Jack is a darkly captivating man with rules that he has sworn not to break, yet things change for him once Kyrie enters his world. He’s obsessed over studying bones and sketching them, one of them in particular: the hyoid.

CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT

» Kyrie is a survivor, an unstoppable force of nature. She goes after what she wants without holding back. She shaped herself into a weapon after tragedy struck her, and she has embraced her darkness, being utterly unapologetic about who and what she is.

» Jack is a loner who cares for no one other than himself, unable to feel much other than perhaps, anger. However, Kyrie becomes a thorn in his side, and slowly, she weaves her way under his skin until there’s no way to pluck her out. He’s passionate and meticulous about the work he does, but he learns that there might be more that he can actually care about.

» Jack and Kyrie’s relationship reminds me a lot of Will Graham and Hannibal Lecter (even when they’re nothing like Jack and Kyrie) in the show, mostly because it gives me the same kind of vibes, aesthetics-wise. Kyrie enjoys antagonizing Jack, and Jack seems to also enjoy going up against her in retaliation. And that’s how a silent war between these two characters starts once the truth about one another is discovered by them. They’re both brilliant, explosive, and intense, unable to back down and becoming enemies that can literally kill one another. The attraction, chemistry, and sexual tension between them are tangible and addictive, escalating until it explodes into one of the hottest scenes I’ve read so far.

WRITING STYLE

Trisha and Brynne’s writing styles complement one another so well that words are seamless and flow smoothly throughout the book. Both Jack and Kyrie are two darkly enticing characters that you learn to love every rough edge of. Humor mingles with vivid imagery while darkness claims each poetically exquisite word choice these two authors make. The spicy scenes… I have no words, honestly. They’re incredibly detailed and hot as hell, holding nothing back, which I loved. The work of these two authors exudes perfection, and you can tell they had a lot of fun writing this book. They also have a way with words that grips you and never let you go. I loved the dialogue and the vivid descriptions so much!

PLOT DEVELOPMENT

Oh, gods. The plot is insane! So many twists and turns and every one of them is so much fun to see unfold. Every element the authors chose for Marrow is sublime. You end up rooting for the rivals that eventually become lovers, tossing your morals right out of the window. The pace and the dual POVs are both entertaining and riveting throughout the book, not having a single moment of boredom. The book starts and ends in a full circle, giving this standalone the perfect symmetry to become one of my favorite books this year.
