The Reader
by Bernhard Schlink
This book completely surprised me. The movie preview did not interest me and when a friend loaned me this book and told me to read it, I was still skeptical. But, once I started reading it, I couldn't put it down; I was totally enthralled. I found Michael & Hanna's relationship a bit much to stomach in part 1, but I couldn't get enough of part 2, with its moral questions about collective responsibility during World War II. Schlink did a phenomenal job crafting these characters and weaving an intricate story of infatuation, love, and morality.
