This book is a beautiful reimaging of the classic Crane Wife folktale from Japanese lore. The Decemberists also wrote an album based off the same story you may be familiar with. Knowing both of those pieces of culture does not ruin the story in the slightest as it remains a tender and heartbreaking story of love, loss, hope, and connection.
