A light mystery with Golden Age feel and a plucky main character. I would not describe Su Lin as an amateur sleuth, rather more of an intelligent eavesdropper. She’s at the crux of trying to figure out to do with a life that’s being planned for her. I don’t think she consciously plans to solve the crime, or become a crime solver but her natural talents just do the work, and she shows herself as a clear asset to Detective Le Froy.
