I read this after having seen AMC’s television miniseries, so I worried going in that knowing the story in advance might spoil the reading experience.
It did not. For one thing, the book is far richer, and more nuanced, than the miniseries. For another, at about the halfway point it became clear that the TV production had veered quite a way from Le Carré’s plot. So I was able to enjoy this spy story on its own merits and still wonder just how things would turn out.
So, if you’ve seen the TV version, do not let that deter you from reading this book.
