I found it verbose at times, however, I'm not sure the story would be the same without it. It took over 250 pages before I felt the story would go somewhere, then halfway through before I felt truly engaged. I'm glad I stuck with it, Anne Rice's style of writing is very different than the authors I'm used to reading from and challenges my ability to visualize a story. I will continue the series!
