The second outing for the Slow Horses gang sees them facing old-school Russian spies from the Cold War era. It's not exactly groundbreaking stuff but I really like the characters and the writing, so I was happy enough to put up with some fairly well-trodden storylines being rehashed for this spy story as it meant spending more time with the like of Jackson Lamb and how Slow Horses. I'm so used to spies in stories being elite experts, it's refreshing to read a story about spies that are mostly useless and gaff prone. It doesn't break the mould but it's a different enough twist on the spy genre to make it fun to read.
