All Creatures Great and Small by James Herriot

funny lighthearted reflective slow-paced

4.0

This was a sweet and funny memoir about a country vet in England in the 1930s that read a bit more like a novel than a memoir. James Herriot is a gifted writer and I appreciated his tales about his early years as a veterinarian. You could sense through the writing how Herriot cared for all animals, livestock and pet alike. Many of his musings were pretty humorous and left me chuckling - particularly the tales of his boss and his boss’s younger brother. Some of the animal stories got a bit repetitive and the book took me quite a while to get through even though I love animals, but I will definitely be reading the next memoir in the series.
