I absolutely loved this book. It was an exciting romance story with so much more depth than I had anticipated. I know with it being the 1950s, the ending was expected and I should feel hopeful, but I almost wish the epilogue hadn’t happened. I often felt like the look into the lives of Lily’s relatives from their perspectives was not always helpful or well fitting into the flow of the story, and I wish more had been wrapped up at the end, like Shirley’s involvement with the communists, but I really enjoyed this book and couldn’t put it down none the less.
