The Bookbinder of Jericho by Pip Williams
3.0

Unfortunately, while I didn’t actively dislike it, this book just fell a bit flat for me. I can definitely see the vision and I felt the pull of the themes - class struggles, women’s rights, education, war, loss - but nothing felt 100% “there”. I honestly felt like the love story was inconsequential and would have liked if the author focused more on the women’s relationships/friendships with one another as to me this held more appeal and relevance. I do kind of see the value the love story brings to the narrative but there were probably other ways to achieve the intended point without centring it around romance.
