As Long as We Both Shall Live
by JoAnn Chaney
This started out well and ended up good. It was just the middle parts that got all jumbled up.
Matt and Marie have been married for over 20 years and have two college-aged daughters. They are on a hike when Matt steps away to go to the bathroom. When he returns, his wife is missing. Did she fall off the cliff? Did Matt push her? It's even more mysterious when the police find out that Matt had a first wife who was murdered.
The part that gets all jumbled for me is when the two detectives enter the story--Spengler and Loren. Their parts of the story became more procedural and I could have done without any of the backstory about Loren. There were many pages of the story that had nothing to do with Matt and Marie's story and I just wasn't interested.
The story alternates between 1995 with Janice, the first wife, and 2018 with Marie. There are twists and betrayals and things I was like "Really?" Nothing is as it seems with Matt and Marie.
