Beginnings: Obsidian & Onyx by Jennifer L. Armentrout

4.0

This is the second series that I've read by Jennifer L. Armentrout (the first being From Blood and Ash) and wow, this was a good pick. The first book was so thrilling to read that I almost couldn't put it down. Although this is more of a fantasy book than a romance novel, there's enough back-and-forth between the main characters (Katy and Daemon) to keep you turning the page. The way she writes the characters reminds me of Poppy and Hawke in From Blood and Ash. If you liked their relationship, I would guess that you'd like Katy and Daemons too. They are similar in my opinion (minus the spice).

The second book was a little less thrilling for me. I think the first book was better than the second, but overall I really did like them both. I think I was hoping for Daemon and Katy's relationship to build more than it did. I feel like I was waiting the entire time for them to finally get together. It's also frustrating for me sometimes reading books where the main character is in complete denial of the love situation going on; and this is what happens throughout the entire second book. I know this is mainly fantasy and not romance, but I'm a sucker for a good love story. Now onto book 3!
