Plot, world building and characterisation are all very shallowly written. It's not an enjoyable read when the characters don't act like they ought to (f.e. characters that should be hostile due to prejudice and indoctrination just?? don't act the part??) or they're very inconsistent. It's a lot of saying one thing but doing another, and it's not even done on purpose to serve a point. Just a poor execution of what was set out to be done.
When you add into context what the story is based on or inspired by, it fails to live up to the expectation too. It's a very surface level reading of what Katara and Zuko were like on the show. The depth behind their actions and motivation is missing.
