Kaguya-Sama: Love Is War, Vol. 11 by Aka Akasaka

5.0

How is this series simultaneously fucking hilarious yet bawl-my-eyes-out heartwarming?! I don't know if I've said this before, but I'm pretty sure this is my favorite rom-com and this volume solidified that. Highlights include:

-Ino and Ishigami trying to become friends with help from Osaragi and Shirogane's plan. Oh my gosh, I burst out laughing so much during this chapter, the artwork and the scenarios were fucking hilarious!

-Hayasaka having to cross-dress because of Kaguya's demands and getting revenge by giving ridiculous answers to Chika's questions. You can tell Hayasaka has worked with Kaguya for so long, she knows how to adapt to her AND how to spite her. Love their dynamic!

-Shirogane wanting to improve his rapping. That whole chapter was FUCKING GOLD. Considering the "Chika having to help Shirogane" scenario has been a running gag throughout the series, I'm amazed it hasn't gotten old for me, but this might be the best one yet. Rather than start off with Chika helping him, he ends up teaching Chika rap so that she can EVENTUALLY teach him in return. A subtle change that made the scenario so much more enjoyable and freshened up a long-time running gag. Speaking of the rap chapters...

-Hayasaka rapping about how hard her life has been with Kaguya was heartfelt and heartbreaking. When the series dives into it's more serious topics, it dives in and doesn't stop til it reaches the bottom. Even though this was small in comparison to the heavier moments in the series, it's poignant because while Hayasaka has lashed out at Kaguya in the past, this is the first time she's lashing out over the collective damage Kaguya has done to her. And again, while the damage isn't life-threatening, it's still pain that Kaguya has inadvertently caused because of her selfishness. I'm glad that they were able to work it out (really does show how close they are) and I'm grateful for the scene as a whole. It's moments like those that make this more than a repetitive rom-com.

-That final chapter. Humorous and heartbreaking. What is going to become of my beloved couple and the Student Council?!

This was a great volume! The humor was consistent, there were some genuinely heartfelt moments, and the artwork/art style was PHENOMENAL. I can't wait to see where this series goes, I love it so much!
