Taboo
by Kim Scott
This is the first book by Kim Scott that I've read - which is surprising because he's a two-time Miles Franklin winner but, like many other esteemed Australian writers such as Tim Winton and Robert Drewe and Richard Flanagan and Patrick White and (and and and), his stories have never appealed to me. I quite liked this one. Scott is a fine writer and in Taboo, he navigates some difficult territory adeptly. His characters are flawed and yet relatable. The story is pacy and engaging. I came away from this book feeling hope.
